Description
100 oz U.S. Assay Office Struck Silver Bar
In the middle of the 19th century, the United States established assay offices in New York City and San Francisco with the express purpose of evaluating the quality of mass volumes of gold and silver bullion coming from the American West. Fast forward to the 20th century, and one of the final acts of these assay offices was to refine silver bars that were dumped into the market in 1980 and 1981. Today, 100 oz US Assay Office Struck Silver Bars are available online from JM Bullion.
Bar Highlights:
- Comes with protective plastic!
- Made from silver formerly stored by the New York or San Francisco Assay Office!
- Struck silver bar!
- Contains 100 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
- Stamped identifiers on the obverse of the bar.
Established in 1854, the New York Assay Office was primarily responsible for evaluating the purity of gold and silver bullion deposited by miners, refiners, and traders. The San Francisco Assay Office, also opened in 1854, was born out of the need to evaluate the massive amounts of gold discovered during the California Gold Rush.
The 100 oz US Assay Office Struck Silver Bar offered here comes with protective plastic for shipping. The bar has 100 Troy ounces of at least .999 pure silver content and features a struck format. These silver bars contain silver that was previously stored at either the New York or San Francisco Assay office. Both names are featured on the bar as an indication that silver within the bar could have come from either assay office.
On the obverse of US Assay Office Struck Silver Bars, you will find identifying hallmarks arranged in landscape orientation. The bar has stamped markings of the weight, purity, and metal content. The name of both assay offices features on this side.
Please note that older bars such as these may show common signs of aging such as toning. Silver toning is a natural result of the oxidation process and does not detract from the value of the silver in the bar.
