The Proof American Gold Eagle series was introduced by the US Mint in 1986, beginning with the 1 oz coin. The fractional weights—1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz—were added in 1987 and 1988 to provide more options for collectors and investors. Over the years, the series has maintained its reputation for high-quality craftsmanship and enduring designs.

All coins in this 4-coin set are produced with frosted design elements against a mirrored background, creating a distinctive proof finish that enhances the depth and detail of the designs. The US Mint packages the set in a presentation box, complete with a Gold Eagle–themed shipper and an official Certificate of Authenticity verifying the coins’ production and specifications. The obverse of each 2025-W Proof American Gold Eagle features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ depiction of Lady Liberty, originally created in 1907 for the $20 Double Eagle. Liberty strides forward with a torch held high in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The background includes rays of sunlight and a small depiction of the U.S. Capitol Building near her feet. Encircling her are stars representing the original states of the Union.

The reverse of the 2025-W Proof Gold Eagle Coins features Jennie Norris’ modernized bald eagle design, introduced in 2021. This close-up, left-profile portrait captures the eagle’s intricate feather details and intense gaze, symbolizing the strength and independence of the United States.
