The release of the 2008 1 oz American Silver Eagle was significant in a number of ways. First and foremost, this date mark was the first since 1987 to break an existing single-year sales record for the series.
With a mintage of 20.583 million coins, the 2008 Silver Eagle not only broke a 20-year-old sales record, it smashed it. The previous record from 1987 was just over 11 million coins, meaning the 2008 coin nearly doubled the previous record.
Walking Liberty is on the obverse of the 2008 1 oz Silver Eagle. This portrait of Liberty comes from the US Half Dollar and was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman. It depicts Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun draped in the American flag.
The heraldic eagle is found on the reverse side of 2008 American Silver Eagle coins. John Mercanti created this image for the debut of the American Silver Eagle in 1986. His depiction is a modern interpretation of the 200-year-old heraldic eagle design.
These 2008 1 oz American Silver Eagle Monster Boxes come with 500 coins, each of which is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are housed in the Monster Box in 25 tubes of 20 coins each.
