Description
1903-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coin PCGS MS65 (Old Rattler)
Of the famous Morgan silver dollar coins, one of the most legendary dates in numismatics is the 1903 coin struck at the New Orleans Mint, where almost four and a half million coins were issued that were mostly found to be unneeded for circulation at the time and sealed into vaults. In later decades, the 1903–O was known as the “king” of the Morgan dollars because of its extreme rarity. In 1962, however, the discovery of a hidden surviving hoard in a Treasury vault transformed the coin’s place on the market, with the release of these coins making the 1903-O more available than ever before. We now offer 1903-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coin for online purchase.

1903 Morgan Dollars with the “O” mint mark were the focus of attention in the discovery and release of a previously unknown “Hoard of Morgans” between 1962 and 1964. The surviving population of coins with a Mint State grade of 65 or better is estimated to be between ten and twenty thousand coins. This offering from JM Bullion has a certified MS-65 grade issued by the pioneering coin grading service PCGS, indicating a highly desirable piece with an above-average strike and fully original, frost luster, showing only light and scattered contact marks outside of prime focal areas.
The 1903-O Morgan Silver Dollar Coin comes in the kind of tamper-proof packaging first pioneered by PCGS between the years 1986 and 1989, first-generation packaging known for a slight rattling sound that led to the nickname “old rattler.”
The obverse field features Lady Liberty in a Phrygian cap, accompanied by the lettering “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “1903” and thirteen decorative stars at the rim.
A heraldic eagle appears on the reverse field with a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, along with the “O” mint mark and the lettering “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
