The German Shepherd is a relatively new dog breed, having been established in Germany in 1899. A member of the working dog category, this breed of medium and large dogs are great for service roles as well, helping the disabled, police officers, and military members on the battlefield.

The 2018 Australian Silver Dog coin is the 11^th release in the 12-coin Lunar Series II collection, and again this year there are two separate designs for the silver and gold coins in the collection. Illustrator Ing Ing Jong has developed two beautiful, distinct designs for Perth Mint’s Year of the Dog collection.

On the reverse of the 2018 1 Kilo Australian Silver Dog Coin you’ll find two German Shepherds, one adult laying in a field with a young pup. The background is highlighted by Chinese peony flowers, and engravings include “Year of the Dog” and the “P” mint mark of the Perth Mint.

The obverse of all Australian Silver Dog coins includes the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Captured in right-profile relief, this design is the fourth-generation effigy of Her Majesty in use on British and commonwealth coins, and was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.

Perth Mint has established an unlimited mintage for the 1 Kilo Australian Silver Dog. This means coins will be struck to meet demand until the end of the calendar year of issue, in this case the end of 2018.
