1 Kilo Australian Silver Lunar Coin (Random Year, Varied Design)

Lunar Series coins from the Perth Mint represent one of the most popular collections available in the modern era. Introduced in 1996, lunar silver coins did not feature 1 Kilo options until later in the Lunar Series I collection beginning with the 1999 release of the coins. Today, 1 Kilo Australian Silver Lunar Coins are available to you online.

Coin Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you in a protective plastic flip!
  • Dates range from 1999 to present!
  • Contains 1 Kilo (32.15 Troy oz) of .999 or .9999 pure silver.
  • The face value of $30 (AUD) is fully backed by the Australian government.
  • On the obverse side is Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse face of the coin has varying lunar designs from the Perth Mint.
  • Random dates and designs available.
  • If you purchase more than one coin, you could receive several matching dates and designs.

The Lunar Series I program ran from 1996 to 2007, but the initial collection featured far fewer weight options than the modern Lunar Series II or Lunar Series III collections. The 1 Kilo silver coin in the Lunar Series offerings didn’t debut until 2009 with the Year of the Rabbit design, missing the first three issues of the series.

All of the 1 Kilo Australian Silver Lunar Coins in this product listing come to you with random date marks and designs. Each coin is housed individually inside of a protective plastic flip and is chosen by us at random after your payment has been processed. We cannot guarantee a specific date mark or design. If you buy more than one, we cannot ensure you receive varying dates and designs.

On the obverse of each 1 Kilo Australian Silver Lunar Coin is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Most of the coins in this listing feature the 1998 effigy of Queen Elizabeth II created by Ian Rank-Broadley, the fifth-generation Australian design, it features the Queen in the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara and was used on all 1 Kilo coins in the Lunar Series I collection from 1999 to 2007 and the entire Lunar Series II collection from 2008 to 2019. Lunar Series III coins debuted in 2020 with the new sixth-generation effigy from Jody Clark.

The reverse of 1 Kilo Australian Silver Lunar Coins bear varying designs from the Perth Mint. The mint issues new designs of the 12 animals in the Zodiac for each series. For example, there are three Year of the Rat designs available in the series. The Year of the Rat leads off the 12year cycle of the Zodiac and featured on the 1996, 2008, and 2020 coins for the Lunar Series I, II, and III collection launches, though it was not available on the Lunar Series I program as the 1 Kilo coin had not launched yet.
