Since the introduction of Perth Mint’s first Lunar Series collection in 1996, change has been a constant in the reverse designs, but stability has reigned on the obverse. From 1996 to 2024, all Lunar Series Coins issued across three separate collections featured a bust of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Now, the series moves to a new era at the midway point of Lunar Series III. King Charles III now features on 2025 1/2 oz Australian Gold Lunar Snake Coins available.

His Majesty King Charles III debuts in Lunar Series III on the obverse of 2025 1/2 oz Gold Lunar Snake Coins. This left-profile bust of Charles III shows the monarch without a crown on his head and was designed for Perth Mint by Dan Thorne. Charles III becomes the first monarch other than Elizabeth II to grace these coins.
A coiled snake design by Sean Rogers is found on the reverse of 2025 Australian Gold Lunar Snake Coins. This design shows a lone snake amidst several bamboo shoots with foliage hanging overhead. The snake has coiled its body around several of the bamboo shoots in this design element.
Throughout history, the interpretation of Snake years in the Zodiac has varied. In some periods, they were seen as years of great potential for personal and spiritual growth. In others, they were viewed with caution, as times when hidden dangers might lurk beneath the surface.
These 2025 1/2 oz Australian Gold Lunar Snake Coins come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual specimens are housed in plastic capsule. Multiples are also housed in capsules and are sealed together in plastic rolls of 20 coins. Perth Mint has an unlimited mintage for this weight and will continue to strike the coins until the release of the next design in the series.
